Storming the community 2022

AWARD CEREMONY

The Storm had an eventful weekend, November 5th, with not only our tryouts but we were honored to be invited to the Northern Nevada Special Olympics Flag Football Tournament in Sparks yesterday! A few of our players helped ref the games and hand out awards! Such an amazing weekend!

KITCHEN HELPERS

The Storm participated in serving meals with St. Vincent’s kitchen in Reno on Friday, November 25th. Our team members help prepare almost 750 meals that were served in the St. Vincent’s dining room and also distributed to Reno-area homeless shelters. This volunteer opportunity was one that helps to cement our team’s mission to give back to our community.

SANTA’S ELVES

We will be teaming up again with the Salvation Army Saturday, 12/3 from 11AM-2PM for Stuff a Trailer – Silver Angel Tree. If you’re not familiar with this event, there will be locations with Silver Angel Trees that have a list of gifts on tags hanging on the tree that Reno-area Seniors have requested for Christmas (see locations below). Come say hi as we will be helping load up these gifts for the Stuff A Trailer event at Tiger Tom’s (196 Gentry Way, Reno, NV) from 11AM-2PM. We are excited to help assist with this wonderful and gratifying event!!

Run with the Storm and Tackle Cancer

We enjoyed a wonderful Saturday morning to help raise funds for the Storm with our WFA 5K fundraiser as well as supporting and bringing awareness to importance of breast cancer screenings for women. We teamed up with the Nevada Cancer Coalition to help Tackle Cancer. Monies raised from the Tackle Cancer T-shirts will be donated to the Nevada Cancer Coalition.

2021 Traner Trunk or Treat

We were so excited to participate and help hand out candy again for the 2021 Traner Trunk or Treat! So many great costumes this year!

WFA LAUNCHES COMMUNITY SERVICE CAMPAIGN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

After months of preparation, the WFA Players Advisory Council is proud to announce the WFA Gives campaign! This program was created to help our teams give back to the communities that come out and support us on the field. The first major campaign of WFA Gives is a monthlong blood drive in conjunction with Vitalant Blood Services. Vitalant will be assisting teams with setting up drives and promoting donation efforts for blood and blood products. In addition, WFA teams will be planning collection events in their communities, including drives for school supplies, PPE, food, clothing, and more. We’ll be sharing events and announcements about WFA Gives throughout the month of November, but be sure you’re following your favorite team so you don’t miss out on the action!

Give a smile

This year’s 2nd Annual Give A Smile event grew by an extra 25 smiles. Members of the Nevada Storm gathered up supplies to put together little care packages for those that may need a little pick me up. We delivered 200 Smiles over the weekend and hope in the upcoming years this event only continues to grow!

Harvest of hope

Update: Boy was Harvest of Hope huge this year! The Merry War Theatre Group did an amazing job of collecting supplies and preparing nice warm meals to hand out on Thanksgiving Day! The goal was set high to deliver 1,500 kindness kits and it went above and beyond! We were very happy to be apart of this feat again and can’t wait until next year!

We will be joining forces again with the Merry War Theatre Group in hopes to help them obtain their goal of delivering 1,500 kindness kits to those in need this year for their annual Harvest of Hope event. If interested in helping the Merry War Theatre Group, please check out of their website for more information.

As much as we may ask for support from our community, we do also love to give back! This year we will be holding collection drives at our home games and partnering up with organizations such as Step 1, Nevada Humane Society, and the Nevada Food Bank. Stay tuned for more information regarding these drives.

Throughout the past few years, our athletes have volunteered their time and have taken various collections to give to local Northern Nevada organizations, such as the Seniors in Service, Scheels Kidz Klub, Volunteers of America – Family Shelter, Safe Embrace, Trunk-or-Treat, Alley’s Prom Closet, Food Bank of Northern Nevada – Turkey Drive, the Niemeyer & Friends Crawfish Boil Fundraiser, Step 2, Sierra Girls on the Run – National Girls and Women in Sports Day, and recently we teamed up with the Merry War Theater Group and their Harvest of Hope event; helping serve over 750 warm meals to those in need. We only hope to add to this growing list as we have a lot of love to give!

In 2019, we created our own annual event, Give A Smile, handing out 175 smiles to those in need during Valentine’s.
